So a few months ago, Valve announced their long rumored Steam Box. This week marks the start of CES 2014 and a lot of news is being released. This past Monday, Valve released information on the hardware partners that will be making various versions of the Steam Box. Prices are set to range anywhere from 500 to 6000 dollars and some will be upgradable. The partners that have been announced are listed below:

Alienware
Alternate
CyberPowerPC
Digital Storm
Falcon NW
GigaByte
iBuyPower
Maingear
Materiel.net
Next Spa
Origin PC
Scan
Webhallen
Zotac

I previously made a video about possibly building a pc. With the announcement of the Steam Box, I may reconsider my choice to build vs. buy. I am still trying to decide whether the Pros outweigh the Cons.

Pros
-Set price
-Ability to Upgrade (in some cases)
-Should work out of the box
-Can connect to my tv
-Easy to use (I assume)

Cons
-Not sure if all games will play since the OS is Linux based
-Can be a little pricey
-Not as versatile as a PC

I don’t have all the information about these boxes yet. Since they are pcs, I am sure I will be able to load Windows on them if I like. I am hoping to get my hands on one of those controllers sometime soon. I’ve talked to a few pc gamers I know and they are still planning on building their own Steam Boxes. I think this is more of an option for those console gamers who want to ease their way into the pc realm. What do you all think?
