With Marvel enjoying the success of Guardians Of The Galaxy and announcing an impressive sum of movies on the horizon for their Marvel Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. has been feeling the heat in regards to their DC Cinematic Universe. Today, they addressed that issue by announcing some release dates of their own.
According to Slashfilm, Warner Bros. has scheduled nine DC films for future release, kicking things off with ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice on it’s new March 26, 2015 release date. It seems like the Captain America vs Batman/Superman game of chicken has finally come to an end. With the success of Captain America: The Winter Solider and the growing fan base for Cap movies, it is a pretty good move for WB to reschedule BvS until they can gain fan support on the level of Marvel Studio’s films.
The new release dates for the post Batman V Superman films are as follows:
- Untitled DC Film – August 5, 2016
- Untitled DC Film – June 23, 2017
- Untitled DC Film – November 17, 2017
- Untitled DC Film – March 23, 2018
- Untitled DC Film – July 27, 2018
- Untitled DC Film – April 5, 2019
- Untitled DC Film – June 14, 2019
- Untitled DC Film – April 3, 2020
- Untitled DC Film – June 19, 2020
It sure looks like Warner Bros. has their hands full. While their San Diego Comic Con panel was positively received for the Batman V Superman trailer, some came away disappointed by the lack of any new release announcements or any more news on a DC Cinematic Universe akin to Marvel’s. With the ever growing BvS cast, Zack Snyder signing on to direct a Justice League movie, and of course these release dates, it seems that Warner Bros. is finally beginning to form a long-term vision for DC characters, something fans have been longing for.
Now the next step is for WB to start revealing just what movies these are going to be. We already have the aforementioned Justice League film confirmed, so that’s one off the list. As for the rest, nothing has been confirmed, but it’s worth noting Gal Gadot has signed on for three films, including a solo outing as Diana Prince, so a Wonder Woman movie must be somewhere in there. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been teasing his involvement in a DC film, possible in a Shazam role, but there’s been no confirmation on that just yet. Ben Affleck has been inked for multiple films as well, with a rumored solo filmed titled ‘The Batman’ due in 2019. There is certainly a lot of potential here, and WB can strike gold if they hit the mark. Hopefully they’ve learned from their past mistakes.
