Today, Remedy Studios announced that the once Xbox One exclusive “Quantum Break” is now coming to PC. I can’t say that I am surprised by this. In the last 2 years, many Xbox One “Exclusives” have ended up on PC (i.e. Ryse and Dead Rising 3). The PC releases were delayed but more games are getting the same release date as their console counterparts. Microsoft and Remedy have stated that Quantum Break will be releasing on Xbox One and Windows 10 on April 5th. No word on whether or not the game will be available via Steam.
With this announcement, came more news that may be exciting to some. If you Preorder the game digitally for the Xbox One, you get the Windows 10 version for free. I don’t doubt that this decision was made in an effort to still push some console sales around the release of the game. If you do purchase the game this way, gamers also get a backwards compatible digital copy of Remedy’s Alan Wake: American Nightmare.
Microsoft says that they are trying to bring the Xbox and Windows brands together. I felt like Quantum Break has the potential to move a lot of consoles. Giving gamers options is a good and bad thing depending how you look at the situation. I guess these are decisions that have to be made when you have multiple platforms within one company.
