Instead of doing a Gamebreak, I’ve decided to give you guys the scoop on a little device that lets you break the games instead! The Max Level crew went to CES 2013 and met up with the great folks of Hyperkin. For those of you that don’t know, Hyperkin specializes in accessories and retro game system manufacturing. If you haven’t heard of the Retron system series; it’s basically a console that allows for you to play NES and SNES cartridges. Cool as that is, that’s not even what I’m here to talk about however!
Remember back in the day when you had that really hard boss that you just couldn’t defeat for the life of you? If you were like me, you went to nearest grocery store and got a copy of the free 90-day America Online trial so you could scope out the internet for anything you could find regarding how to beat that boss. Heck, sometimes you even just had an older sibling, parent or guardian beat it for you, but where’s the fun in that? I remember having trouble with a boss in Star Fox and a friend of mine recommended getting a “Game Genie”. I was clueless as to what this was, but shortly after, another friend of ours bought one and brought it over. The game genie allowed for you to enable cheats like infinite health, infinite ammo and manipulate games to weird over the top wacky proportions.
It’s been years since a Game Genie device has been on the market and for a time, I didn’t think we’d ever see one again. But Hyperkin has done it and I’m here to bring you the details on this new, magical stick. (seriously, it’s an orange usb stick!)
The Game Genie does exactly what it did in the 90′s; it allows for you to make a game easier with infinite money, power ups, health, or weapon unlocks. As of right now, the Game Genie is only avaliable for PS3 and DS portable devices (including DSi and 3DS). Currently there are 158 games that the Game Genie supports, with over 4000 cheats available.
Through various updates, you are able to keep up to date with Game Genie cheats to enhance your gameplay experience. If you go to the Game Genie official website and forums, you are able to find codes for the advanced mode. Advanced mode allows users to view the game’s code within it’s save file. Game Genie re-edits these codes so that users are able to acquire things like “infinite money”, but also if you are an advanced cheater yourself, perhaps you could go deeper than that. By finding the right code that affects different values in the game, a person can go in and simply change something like “health potions: 2″ to “health potions: 99″ I’ve personally been digging the Devil May Cry codes that were released. I’ve unlocked all the abilities and am able to fully enjoy the combo potential of the game.
All in all, the Game Genie is a device you’d really have to see for yourself to fully appreciate. There aren’t a tonof games being supported by it quite yet, but I feel like the games that are supported are perfect and they’re still adding more. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch was recently added and that is a fairly new game. If you’re curious about this excellent device, I would highly suggest giving it a look over at Game Genie’s official web site.
