Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky Nintendo. I really hope you didn’t get rid of your Wavebird controller in a garage sale, because they’re about to come in handy real soon. Nintendo has just announced a GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U. Nintendo posted a tweet which contained a picture of a Wii U with a GameCube controller connected to it via an adapter of some sort.

This is great news for anyone (myself included) that has played Smash Bros. Melee for countless hours, and are accustomed with the GameCube controller because so. So, there’s no longer the need to buy the Wii U’s clunky Pro controller or deal with the giant beast that is the Wii U GamePad, to play the latest Smash Bros. title upon its release.
Since the GameCube controller is now usable with the latest Smash Bros. iteration, we can assume that its control scheme is going to be virtually the same as its predecessors.
I thought it was impossible for me to be even more excited for Smash Bros. U, but I stand corrected.
