The Marvel Cinematic Universe grows once again, as a huge piece of casting news is finally confirmed after much speculation.
Actor Mike Colter will step into the role of Luke Cage, marking the characters first and long awaited live-action debut. He will appear on the upcoming Netflix series A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Coulter has previously appeared on American Horror Story, The Following, and Zero Dark Thirty, and be seen currently in a recurring role on The Good Wife, but he will be immediately familiar to fans as the star of the Xbox original series Halo: Nightfall, as Jameson Locke. So far, Colter’s role has only been confirmed for the 13 episode run of Jessica Jones, but Marvel has hinted at a Luke Cage series many times in the past.
Marvel themselves announced the casting, saying “Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said. “We’re excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”
Marvel’s Head Of Television Joseph Loeb added to the announcement saying “Fans have longed to see Luke Cage brought and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” Loeb continued “Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”
With Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones cast, the odd man out is Iron Fist. The duo of Luke Cage and Iron Fist go as far back as Cage’s first appearance, so it’s expected for Fist to be cast soon. Marvel has yet to announce his casting, but once they do, we will be one step closer to the much anticipated Defenders series.
