Okay, let’s be honest. We’ve all imagined a funny scenario involving the Xbox One being shut off via it’s Kinect 2.0 enabled voice command feature. Apparently the developers working on the Xbox One presently have already been making this happen. For instance at Insomniac Game’s studio, where Senior Engine Programmer Andreas Fredriksson is already tired of his co-workers shouting “Xbox Off” over the PA, thus causing a mass shutdown of the console dev kits.

You have to admit, this sounds like a pretty hilarious workplace prank. At least whenever it works. Andreas went on to answer someone who asked if it did with the following:

So my dreams of going to a pro gaming event and screaming “Xbox Off” have dwindled just a bit assuming that the noise would make it less possible. Of course, one could always just unplug the Kinect to avoid such a thing from happening and these are just the dev kits, but the fact that it’s even possible is definitely worth a chuckle or two.

What would happen if two people were playing CoD online and one guy says he’s using a Kinect for his mic while listening through his TV speakers. What if the online opponent screams, “X-Box, Off!” Will it just shut down?
