The mandatory install for Grand Theft Auto V, as you can see by the headline, is massive. At 8GB, GTA V’s mandatory install couldn’t possibly fit on 4GB and 8GB models of the Xbox 360. This means that additional hardware will be required before the game is playable on these versions of the console.

For these models of the 360, a USB stick or external harddrive will be necessary to play GTAV. The Xbox 360 already will be on two DVD disc, with the PS3 version coming on one Blu Ray disc. Rockstar added a few more details on their official blog about the requirements for small harddrive 360s.

“If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance.”

GTAV hits stores on September 17 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
