It seems there’s a new addition to the Dead Island franchise. Following a month after the announcement of Dead Island 2 at this year’s E3, another Dead Island project was just announced– it is titled, Escape Dead Island. The mystery thriller is set on, yes, you guessed it, an island. Players assume the role of Cliff Calo, the spoiled son of a powerful media mogul. Equipped with a stolen yacht with friends, Cliff’s sole goal is to capture the story of a lifetime and expose the cause of the zombie virus, by exploring the quarantined zone of Narapela and document everything they discover. Things don’t go exactly like Carlo and the crew had planned.
Escape is going to take place after the original Dead Island, bridging the narrative gap between Dead Island 1&2. The game is going to be developed by the Swedish studio, Fatshark, they are best known for titles such as: Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2, Lead and Gold, and War of the Roses. Escape is set to be more story driven than its predecessors.
Accompanying the announcement is a trailer and several screenshots:
The way the story is being told implies that Calo is going insane, and cannot compile all of his thoughts — the player constantly jumping back in forth in time, randomly finding themselves in the middle of nonsensical situations. Escape‘s story is going to be keeping players on their toes, because it is everchanging. Furthermore, the reason for the zombie virus is going to be revealed in the story.
Escape Dead Island is set to release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC this fall. The game will cost $39.99.
