And just like that, we have a new friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Following the announcement that Marvel and Sony had struck a deal for Spidey to appear in Marvel Studio’s films, speculation immediately begun as to who would play the world famous web-slinger. After months of speculation, it looks like Marvel has finally made their choice.
Asa Butterfield, star of The Boy In The Striped Pajama’s, Hugo, and Ender’s Game, has been selected for the role, according to Latino-Review.
This news comes on the heels of last week’s report that Butterfield was a favorite amongst Marvel, with sources claiming that “Marvel has liked him since day one.”
Butterfield has the look Marvel is going for, with the studio saying they wanted a younger Spider-Man, with the movie heavily focusing on Peter’s high school days and how he juggles being Spider-Man and a student. Peter’s time in high school has been regulated to just a few scenes in the films released so far.
Peter Parker’s first appearance is widely expected to be in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Parker plays a key role in the comic the film is based on, with Tony Stark convincing Spidey to join his side, while Peter struggles the choice he has made. After his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony will launch their new Spider-Man series, in a collaboration with Marvel Studios.
