The Hollywood Reporter has recently divulged that two writers have been brought on to an untitled Aquaman project. It’s widely believed that Jason Momoa will be playing the role of Aquaman, though there have been no official confirmations as of yet. The writers who were brought under the project include Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad. Beall, who wrote the script for Gangster Squad, and Johnstad, who wrote the script for 300: Rise of an Empire, are both accomplished writers in the industry.
In my opinion, these are not the best writers to put on the project, but as we’ve seen with these comic book movies, sometimes directors and writers can come out of nowhere and create something genius. I have been waiting for this movie since the new 52 comics, and I’m glad WB has finally mustered up the courage to take on one of DC’s most underrated characters. If Marvel can make a movie about a talking tree and make it great, than Warner Bros. certainly can make this happen; it all comes down to the director. I’ll admit that I wasn’t too thrilled when Zach Snyder was announced to be directing Man of Steel, but I believe he did a pretty good job with what he had, and I never would’ve guessed that the Russo brothers were the perfect people to direct Captain America: The Winder Soldier.
At the very least, no matter how the movie turns out, I commend Warner Bros. for finally having a plan of action and for not being afraid of backlash.
